Wikipedia 101 for new Community Developers

As per the study in 2018, It is found that about 60% of technical contributions of the Wikimedia Foundation are from volunteers. In this talk we will be discussing the Wikimedia’s Ecosystem, Technical areas, projects for new developers and efforts to onboard new developers. The goal is to create awareness on various opportunities including Google Summer of Code and Outreachy programs with Wikimedia Foundation and engage participants specially new developers from the Greece with the technical spaces of Wikimedia Foundation.


Intended outcomes :
Participants will be able to learn the following:

Wikimedia ecosystem
Technical areas and projects for new developers
Efforts to onboard new developers
Opportunities such as Google Summer of Code and Outreachy

Vasanth Gopa is an Open Source enthusiast, he contributes to the Wikimedia Technical Spaces and a core committee member of Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group, He was a Google Summer of Code Scholar in 2019 and then in recent years he has been leading the outreach programs at Wikimedia including Google Summer of Code and Outreachy.

He is a graduate from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India in Computer Science and Engineering. He also graduated from Ben-Gurion University on the Data Mining and BI for the applications of Cyber Security, Israel. He is also a passionate in creating and innovating, In the past he developed Flick - A short video application for the Indian Audience.
